Amazing Transparent Animals on Planet Earth: Have you ever wonder seeing a butterfly which is transparent? Or seeing a frog which is also transparent? That would be really amazing to see and watch!
Now for this post we are showcasing some the world’s weird-looking creatures – the transparent animals. Some of these animals are the sea cucumber, jellyfish, octopus, fish, seahorse, butterfly and more.
Have some time to read and check out the 10 listed transparent animals below.
1. Amphipod
Amphipoda is an order of malacostracan crustaceans with no carapace and generally with laterally compressed bodies. Amphipods range in size from 1 to 340 millimetres and are mostly detritivores or scavengers. There are more than 9,900 amphipod species so far described.
Diet: Amphipods and isopods are mostly omnivores which feed on benthic organic matter, but they will scavenge and also prey on other animals when possible. Some species feed heavily on plants, including watercress, which is common in the spring habitats favored by some isopods.
Location: amphipod, any member of the invertebrate order Amphipoda (class Crustacea) inhabiting all parts of the sea, lakes, rivers, sand beaches, caves, and moist (warm) habitats on many tropical islands. Marine amphipods have been found at depths of more than 9,100 m (30,000 feet).
Size: Amphipods are a type of crustacean normally around 2-3 cm long. But the creatures discovered in the Kermadec Trench were more than ten times this size.
Reproduction: Copulation in most gammaridean amphipods occurs a few minutes after the female molts (Hynes, 1955), which is preceded by the female’s release of eggs into the egg pouch (marsupium), where fertilization occurs. Eggs are incubated in the egg pouch until juveniles hatch, and the female releases them after hours or days.
Scientific name: Amphipoda
Order: Amphipoda; Latreille, 1816
Phylum: Arthropoda
Subphylum: Crustacea
Kingdom: Animalia

2. Glasswing butterfly
Greta oto is a species of brush-footed butterfly and member of the subfamily Danainae, tribe Ithomiini, and subtribe Godyridina. It is known by the common name glasswing butterfly for its transparent wings, which allow it to camouflage without extensive coloration.
Scientific name: Greta oto
Family: Nymphalidae
Order: Lepidoptera
Phylum: Arthropoda
Kingdom: Animalia

Cambarus aculabrum is a rare species of cave-dwelling crayfish known by the common name Benton county cave crayfish. It is native to Arkansas in the United States, where it is known from only four locations. It is a federally listed endangered species of the United States.
The Dougherty Plains Cave Crayfish is endemic to North Florida and South Georgia, and is perfectly adapted for a life in total darkness. It was such a treat to see one up close!S

4. Transparent Frog (Glass Frog)
The glass frogs are frogs of the amphibian family Centrolenidae. While the general background coloration of most glass frogs is primarily lime green, the abdominal skin of some members of this family is transparent and translucent.
Predators: One of the most dangerous natural predators to the reticulated glass frog is the wasp. As tadpoles, the frogs are in an extremely vulnerable position and can be carried away by wasps or other flying insects for food. Snakes, birds, and some smaller mammals will target the reticulated glass frog as well.
Lifespan: The male frog guards the females’ fertilized eggs placed on leaves until they hatch and the tadpoles fall into the water. The translucent skin of some species permits an observer to see the frog’s beating heart. Glass frogs live up to 14 years.
Habitat: The glass frog is found in humid montane forests throughout Central and South America including Belize, Costa Rica, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Panama.
Scientific name: Centrolenidae
Order: Anura
Family: Centrolenidae; Taylor, 1951
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Suborder: Neobatrachia
5. Salpa – Top 20 Amazing Transparent Animals on Planet Earth – See Pics with Details
A salp or salpa is a barrel-shaped, planktic tunicate. It moves by contracting, thereby pumping water through its gelatinous body, one of the most efficient examples of jet propulsion in the animal kingdom. The salp strains the pumped water through its internal feeding filters, feeding on phytoplankton.
Size: Salps are gelatinous, mostly transparent, and cylindrically shaped. They range in size from a few millimetres at birth to around 10 cm as they grow, although one species is known to reach more than a few meters. Individual salps form a colony during the sexual phase of their lifecycle.
Reproduction: Salps go through two life phases in which they reproduce asexually, and later sexually, as hermaphrodites. In their asexual stage they produce long chains of identical salps connected together, which then break free and later reproduce sexually, with a baby salp growing up inside each parent in the chain.
Taxonomy: Despite looking rather like a jellyfish, salps are a member of the Tunicata, a group of animals also known as sea squirts. They are taxonomically closer to humans than jellyfish. Salps are classified in the Phylum chordata; they are related to all the animals with backbones.
Scientific name: Salpidae
Phylum: Chordata
Kingdom: Animalia
Subphylum: Tunicata

6. Seahorses – Fish
A seahorse is any of 46 species of small marine fish in the genus Hippocampus. “Hippocampus” comes from the Ancient Greek hippókampos, itself from híppos meaning “horse” and kámpos meaning “sea monster” or “sea animal”.
Largest species: The largest seahorse species (pictured here) is Hippocampus abdominalis , or the big-bellied seahorse, which can reach more than a foot long (35 cm) and lives in the waters off Southern Australia and New Zealand.
Size & Weight: The average height of an adult sea horse range from . 6 to 14 inches (1.6 – 35 cm) in size. Seahorses also vary in color, including red, orange, yellows, greens and grey. Weight: A seahorse is usually around 7 ounces to 1 pound in weight.
Scientific name: Hippocampus
Phylum: Chordata
Order: Syngnathiformes
Family: Syngnathidae
Kingdom: Animalia

Barreleyes, also known as spook fish, are small deep-sea argentiniform fish comprising the family Opisthoproctidae found in tropical-to-temperate waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
Scientific name: Opisthoproctidae
Phylum: Chordata
Order: Argentiniformes
Kingdom: Animalia
Size: The barreleye (Macropinna microstoma), a spookfish of the Pacific, occurs along the North American coast. It is less than 10 cm (4 inches) in length and brownish in colour.

9. Transparent Sea Cucumber
Census of Marine Life researchers discovered this unusual transparent sea cucumber (Enypniastes sp.) in the Gulf of Mexico at 2,750 meters depth. It creeps forward on its tentacles pretty slowly, at around 2 centimeters per minute, while sweeping detritus-rich sediment into its mouth.
Sea Cucumber venom is toxic to humans if the Cuvierian tubules come into contact with the eyes, the result may be permanent blindness.
